Dispelling the confusion around parenteral nutrition* and helping HCPs to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), so that all patients are getting the right care at the right time.

Fresenius Kabi wanted help to improve protocols and proactively support MDT working to improve patient outcomes. This meant empowering HCPs through the Connect Programme. NCFE-accredited, this online educational event ran over six weeks and was designed to further develop the leadership and coaching skills of lead dietitians in parenteral nutrition. It enabled lead dietitians working in UK acute settings to support members of their team and help them grow in confidence in their role.

HCPs have completed the course since February 2021

of delegates said that the course improved their confidence in coaching, with 49% saying it exceeded them

Our research showed that a lack of confidence leads to a lack of decision-making in clinical nutrition and delays in patients receiving the vital therapy they need. The dietitians are highly skilled in understanding the nutrition needs of patients, but needed the confidence and communication skills to effectively recommend to decision-makers in the MDT.

The Connect Programme comprises four modules run over six 90-minute workshops:

• Understanding the principles of coaching
• Effective communication in coaching
• 360 communication skills
• Integrating coaching into your organisation

On completion of the course, which includes interactive virtual sessions and some homeworking with feedback along the way, delegates are awarded a certificate by NCFE.
